TR-T0156 PTV Visum - Dynamic Traffic Assignment (SBA) and Synthetic Matrix Estimation (ODME) (US)

Short Description

This course introduces two advanced modeling techniques in PTV Visum: Simulation-Based Dynamic Assignment (SBA), which models spatio-temporal traffic interactions while accounting for intersection geometry and signal control, and Synthetic Matrix Estimation (ODME), which adjusts demand matrices to better align with observed traffic counts using entropy-based (TFlowFuzzy) and least squares methods. Participants will gain practical skills to prepare networks, configure dynamic assignments, and apply matrix estimation techniques for improved model accuracy.

Course Level

Advanced

Target Group

Traffic engineers and modelers working on corridor studies, large-scale traffic simulation, and demand calibration.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of static traffic assignment in PTV Visum and familiarity with general traffic modeling concepts.

Duration

Part 1: 3 hours – Dynamic Traffic Assignment (SBA)
Part 2: 1 hour – Synthetic Matrix Estimation (ODME)

Contents

Part 1: Dynamic Traffic Assignment (SBA)

• Preparing networks for SBA (network coding)
• Setting up time-varying demand
• Adjusting model parameters (car-following, merging, lane changing)
• Visualization and interpretation of results

Part 2: Synthetic Matrix Estimation (ODME)

• Data preparation for matrix estimation
• Applying ODME methods in Visum (TFlowFuzzy, Least Squares, Dynamic Least Squares)
• Analyzing and validating results
