When modelling long-distance freight traffic covering very large areas, three challenges have to be considered:
First, the geographic distribution of trips not only depends on locations of production and consumption, but also on the choice between alternative logistic distribution chains and the locations of intermediate distribution centers.
Second, any stage of the distribution chain may combine several modes into a multi-leg transport.
Third, the large scale of the model leads to large zones, implying a significant share of intrazonal traffic.
In this two-day course we will show you how to adapt the four-stage model by generalizing destination choice into a distribution channel model and by introducing a mode sequence choice model for multimodal transport. A simplified distance band model is applied to intrazonal traffic.
TR-T0122 Visum Long-Distance Freight
Short Description
Course Level
Advanced
Target Group
This course provides experienced users a deeper insight into demand modelling. It is aimed at users who already have basic knowledge of demand modelling and who want to extend it to long-distance freight models.
Prerequisites
You have successfully participated in our course “PTV Visum – Creating a 4-step transport model” (TR-T0109) or have comparable knowledge of demand modelling in PTV Visum. You also have obtained practical project experience.
Duration
1 Day
Due to organizational and local conditions, the duration of the course may vary. Please note the details of your chosen course date before booking.
Contents
- Creating an example of longdistance 4-step freight demand model with multimodal assignment and distribution center choice modelling
